Most vascular plants and arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi form symbiotic relationships in their roots. In exchange for the plant’s lipids, the fungi give nutrients like phosphate. RAM1 is a transcription factor that controls lipid provisioning and is necessary for AM symbioses. Another mechanism by which plants regulate the synthesis of lipids and their transport to fungi was discovered by Ivanov and Harrison. Two cyclin-dependent kinase-like proteins are involved in this system, and they can function alongside the known RAM1 pathway or in parallel. This research sheds light on a regulatory mechanism essential to the growth and nutrition of plants. —Madeleine Seale

Right now, I think there are very few coaches in Atlanta that will stay, and it would be best if those who won’t be retained could leave and look for other opportunities as soon as possible. Morris will probably move fast to fill the majority of his staff now that January is almost over, and at least one name has already been connected to him.

Top pick for offensive coordinator: Zac Robinson?

It’s hard to ignore this one. Robinson, who is the Rams’ passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach, has received high marks for his work in Los Angeles and was being interviewed this offseason for offensive coordinator positions across the league. Robinson, who was close to Raheem Morris during their time together in Los Angeles, performed admirably as Jared Goff’s assistant quarterbacks coach and is recognized for having played a significant role in reviving the Rams’ passing game under Matthew Stafford.

It was announced in December 2008 that Raheem Morris would take over as defensive coordinator for the Buccaneers in 2009 following Monty Kiffin’s decision to depart the team and move Lane Kiffin, his son, is in Tennessee.Morris took over as the team’s head coach on January 16, 2009, about a month after head coach Jon Gruden was fired by the Buccaneers. Morris had interviewed for the head coaching job with the Denver Broncos prior to being hired by Tampa Bay.After a 0–7 start to the season, Morris defeated the Green Bay Packers in Week 9 to earn his first victory as head coach. Morris assumed the position of defensive coordinator on November 24, 2009, following Jim Bates’s resignation. After finishing with a 3-13 record and finishing last in the NFC South, the team wrapped up his first season as head coach. The team finished 10-6 in his second season, just missing the postseason. His seven-game turnaround was the greatest in the history of the team. 2010 saw Morris become the first coach since the NFL/AFL merger in 1970 to start ten or more rookies and finish the season with a winning record. In the thirteenth week of the 2011 NFL season, Morris benched defensive tackle Brian Price against the Carolina Panthers after Price got into an altercation with Mackenzy Bernadeau, the guard for the Panthers, at the end of the third quarter. This altercation led to Cam Newton, the quarterback, being called for four downs for unnecessary roughness. Price’s actions would have put the Panthers in a third-and-terrible situation, which infuriated Morris. But after a 15-yard penalty, the Panthers were awarded a first down and went on to score a touchdown drive (winning 38-19). Morris, clearly enraged after the game, called Price’s actions “selfish” and “foolish.”Morris took over as the team’s head coach on January 16, 2009, about a month after head coach Jon Gruden was fired by the Buccaneers.
